Pulsed Magnetic Fields of Different Intensities ? Selected Results

This lecture presents some current results of own research works applied to the animal and to the human being. The results for the practice-relevant application of magnetic fields of such frequency and field strengths are discussed that do not cause thermal effects in the tissue. This includes the discussion of the possible action mechanisms.

Animal examinations
1. Immunobiological reactions
For the control group in the magnetic field, the strongest immune response was achieved after an antigen pretreatment whereas the weakest immune response was achieved under Faraday conditions (shielding of the electric field in the air). Experimental animal: mouse.
2. Course of acute inflammation
By means of different methods, oedemas were caused under the back skin and at the paw of the rat. The development of the oedemas was strongly reduced whereas it was largely accelerated under Faraday conditions.
3. Bone fracture consolidation
After an artificial femur osteotomy, the magnetic field causes an accelerated fracture consolidation. Experimental animal: rabbit.

Human studies
4. Treatment of sleep disturbances, meteorosensitiveness, acute and chronic rheumatism
Some of the frequency patterns in imitation of the brain waves were used for the supportive therapy of sleep disturbances, meteorosensitive complaints and acute and chronic rheumatism. In case of all three clinical pictures, a highly satisfactory improvement occurred (double blind trial).
5. Therapy at patients having a heavy multiple injury
The magnetic field treatment caused an increase of the partial pressure of oxygen (double blind trial). This means an accelerated regeneration process.
6. Adjuvant magnetic field application in the rehabilitation of older patients having a fracture near the hip joint
In a simple blind study, a substantial reduction of the hospital stay times turned out.
7. Improvement of mobility and relief of pain in case of diseases of the locomotor and support system by means of magnetic fields
In the magnetic field, a pain relief was achieved that was indicated by a reduction of the finger-ground distance on rocking down the trunk (experience study).
8. Adjuvant magnetic field therapy in case of selected diseases of older patients (in particular, diseases of the locomotor system)
According to a subjective estimation, an improvement of the health state turned out; in particular, in the sense of a general pain relief. The mobility restriction measured in the form of the finger-ground distance on lowering the trunk was reduced. Partly, drugs could be saved in a substantial extent (experience report).
